I have been given a substandard level of dental care. What can I do?

February 8th, 2012
Q.

I had a consultation for private orthodontic treatment to correct my misaligned top arch which I hate. I was advised that my old amalgam fillings showed decay on the surrounding tooth and had cracked along with a badly fitted upper crown that will need to be replaced and a Cerec restoration on an un-finished crown!!! All this before orthodontic treatment can begin! However I am astounded that I have just had a crown fitted via NHS treatment and he has failed to address ANY of these issues. I had advised him of my concerns on my initial consultation I knew the lower fillings needed replacing but had no idea how bad my upper teeth were being as I cannot see them! He has not attempted to correct the fillings nor address the ill fitted crown and has totally ignored the un-finished crown!!! I am extremely upset and distressed by the matter what should I do???

My teeth have been in decline for several years after accident and eating disorder

January 13th, 2012
Q.

Several years ago i fell and knocked two of my teeth out but through given appointments months apart my teeth got gradually worse, beforehand I had a beautiful smile, and because I had the flu and had to cancel my appointment they took me off their list not to mention they left me with an ill fitting plate. So I haven’t seen a dentist since 2005 now my bottom teeth are in a right mess, and because of this it has worsened my eating disorder so I’m now considering getting a full set of dentures because I don’t want to go nhs because I don’t think they give you the best. How much would this procedure cost and do you do any type of credit facilties. I am very desperate my confidence is zero I talk with my hand over my mouth. It’s all very depressing for me to have lost what I had. Please could you contact me asap. Many Thanks for listening and look forward to hearing from you.

I feel like I’m being ignored and made out to be a moaner but my dentures are not right. What can I do?

September 27th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I had new full dentures made on the NHS back in January. When they came back from the lab it was obvious that there was a space between the top and bottom denture. The dentist said that wasn’t acceptable and they were sent back. When they came back there was still l space between top and bottom but that problem was taken over by the ill fitting bottom denture. After several visits and adjustments made to the bottom denture and also relined I was unable to wear them.

I was then refered to the dental hospital who recommended my bottom denture be made on a replica of my old one. I pointed out while at the hospital that there was a space between top and bottom and didn’t bite properly on food. He said when the bottom denture is made they can make the teeth stick out to meet the top ones! I didn’t agree with that but he wouldn’t listen.

The new bottom denture has now been made and the teeth are sticking out at an angle so much that there are spaces between the six front teeth making them feel sharp on my tongue and one of the canine teeth is sticking up above the rest and catches my tongue. when I pointed out about the tooth sticking up the dentist said yes that’s your canine tooth!

There is a big difference in the colour of the top and bottom dentures. The new bottom teeth are so white that they make the top ones look yellow and the gum colour of the bottom denture is a far deeper pink than the top denture.

I feel I don’t want to go back there as it seems like I’m always complaining but I am absolutely not happy with the dentures at all.

I have been wearing full dentures for nearly 50 years and never had anything like these problems before. I don’t know what to do.

Can you please advise.

Regards

Can I get funding for dental implants?

August 10th, 2011
Q.

I was told that I had severe periodontal disease at 38 and that I would lose all my teeth soon. My teeth are all loose and I dont not have much bone mass. My dentist said it could have been caused by stress, genetics etc. I have been really depressed as my teeth have moved out of alignment, I cannot bite anything with my front teeth due to an extreme overbite. I rarely smile anymore. I have been told that the best option is to remove my teeth (even though they are healthy below the gum) and to wear dentures. I have come around to this idea. However, I would like cosmetic dentures fixed with mini denture implants but I cannot afford this. Is there anyway that I can get funding for this as I cannot bite, I do not smile and I am depressed as I was told i will loose all my teeth when I was 38. I am now 43 and my hands are tied as I cannot afford to do anything about it. Please help!

I hate my NHS denture but can’t get implants, what can I do?

August 4th, 2011
Q.

I currently wear a 3 tooth denture on my bottom teeth, however it’s a cheap NHS job and never felt like it’s fitted properly. I av very little gum and bone so a implant is completely out of the question so what choices have I got on dentures? Iam willing to go private so then I get the best quality I just would like to know what my options are? Thanks for having time to read this

Whats my next step after my poorly fitted bridge?

July 25th, 2011
Q.

hi like most people looking for some advise on my next step with my teeth..this is the story..I lost my front tooth when i was a teenager, then i had a poorly made bridge fitted this lasted for about 6 years till i took a boot in the mouth playing football then had another tooth worn down and new ( poorly) fitted bridge put in. i now have another one and in all i now have 5 missing teeth under the bridge..i really hate the look of it and its never felt right in my mouth it was a nhs job so i no it was never gonna be the best but i expected better than what was actually fitted. implants sound good put at about 2500 per tooth i could not afford to spend 12500 putting it right is this the correct price?.. or could you tell me what other opitions would be availble to me. really need to get this sorted asap many thanks
