The anchor used for an old implant was used to secure my partial. Can it do the same for full dentures?

April 13th, 2012
Q.

I currently have a partial denture on the top jaw. the excellent thing about it is that I used to have an implant with a crown in the area, we used this for me to have my partial screwed to along with a very ‘weak’ clasp. the clasp was custom as it was barely required. the partial has been amazing for me, literally life changing in terms of the lifestyle I could have. I was wondering though, as it is currently impending, would I be able to do this for full dentures and would it work quite as well? I have a concern that it won’t as this partial is so thin it barely weighs anything but I assume a full denture wouldn’t be the same. thanks for your help in advance

Is it possible for me to have dental implants to retain my dentures?

April 13th, 2012
Q.

Hello. Sandra Could you please help me out. I have had dentures for fifteen years now and had decided (as I’m not to far off needing a new pair now) to look into getting dental implants as I was a bit fed up with having to pass up the opportunity of a steak etc. I went to see my dentist to sort out the relevancies. He insisted I was better off not having them due to the fact a bone in the front of my chin had reduced to much- as a result of wearing dentures for this long. He seems like he cant be bothered which made me question whether he’s saying that for the sake of it. Is this possible to happen? thank you I’d really been looking forwards to this.

I’ve lost bone in my jaw. Would I be suitable for dental implants or would I need mini-implants?

April 13th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I am looking into getting implants, for two missing teeth at the front of my mouth, which i currently wear a bridge to hide. The bridge is quite old now and I think its on its last legs so i was just wondering about dental implant options. I have been told that i have a low level of bone in my jaw and i guess this would be a major factor when it comes to placing implants. Could you tell me the difference between implants and mini implants and which would be best for me? and also if there is anything i would need to do about my jaw. thanks and hope to hear from you soon

I am going to need to replace the remainder of my teeth and half a full denture, what options do I have for this?

April 11th, 2012
Q.

Hello Bill. I live in Sussex , I am 30 and have had to have a lot of teeth removed with the lovely promise that there is more to come! I am therefore looking at full dentures, I am currently wearing a pair of half dentures that replace most of my teeth for the time being, to be honest I really dont like the feel of these and wondered if full dentures would just be the same but more of them? if so is there any other alternative materials they can be made from or are they all the same? is there any other information you can give me on getting comfortable dentures?? thank you

What are the requirements to be illegible for Swiss dentures?

April 11th, 2012
Q.

Hi there Mr butler, I have been having thoughts about dentures. I need to do something to replace my teeth and have looked at both dentures and implants. Ideally I gues it would be best to have a full mouth of individual implants for the most realistic look but I’m told that A) this will cause too much damage and that B) it’ll be it will be to expensive. I therefore am looking at dentures but am a little confused . I have heard wonderful things about Swiss dentures but have been told again that I might not require them, what are the requirements for being a suitable candidate for swiss dentures/what are they and how are they different to normal dentures? thanks a lot

Would it be worth having dental implants as soon as possible to stop bone loss?

April 11th, 2012
Q.

Hello Colin, could you please do me favor in looking at my question. I have had a lot of tooth problems in the past and have had a lot of teeth removed. I was told during a bout of gum disease that some of jaw bone had ‘resorped’ but also that it wasn’t so bad, I have also read that having dentures can create this effect. As a result Would it be wise to have dentures with implants straight away or just dentures? thank you for your time Colin

I have crowns and other dental restoration, will these have to be removed to fit my dentures?

April 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I’m thinking of getting dentures as I may indeed need them soon. I am looking to gather as much information as i can before proceeding further. when I have collated enough information I will consult my dentist and the specialist that does the dentures. My problem is that I have had a lot of restorative procedures in order to save as much of my natural teeth as possible. there’s a two veneered teeth a filled tooth and a couple of crowns. the fillings and the veneers will come out with the teeth im not bothered about them, what I want to know is what you would do with the crown and abutment when fitting dentures? thank you

I am currently unhappy with my dentures, what options do I have with dental implants?

April 4th, 2012
Q.

Hii Mr Taylor :) for the duration of time I have worn dentures I have largely been happy with them. I am now struggling though. the last pair I had I had to have them re-lined this improved them for the remaining lifespan of that pair, however the same method didnt really work to well with this pair, I have not had them long and was begining to struggle with them so I tried this method again and had it done but it didnt do much and now the dentures are insecure again. I would like to know what options i have or whether the only route is implants? what are your thoughts on this situation? thank you

What is the best method of retention: implants or suction valves?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

Dear expert. Hello, please could you help me, I was reading through the existing expert answers on this site to try and find if anyone else had posted the same question. as it turns out there is a question that touched upon what i wanted to know. Someone asked you what ultra suction was, I know what it is already but I want to know how it compares to dental implants. surely people only have implants to keep dentures in place, if the suction thing does this and allows the dentures to be removed then surely this is a better option? what are you thoughts on this and is there anything I need to know about the two procedure that sets them apart for quality/usability? cheers

Why do people’s dentures always come loose and how do I prevent it?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

hello Mr Patterson
Please could you help me, I have been trying to some internet research on dentures yet all I can find is people who have issues with dentures and how they wont stay put. I have had my dentures now for a good few years and I havent had this problem, I am now trying to safeguard this if you will in that I dont want to have the dentures come loose at any point in the future. Is there any measure I can take to stop this occurring , If not i am seeing it as inevitable, have you ever had cases where somebody has had a full lifetime of retained dentures without any other support? thanks
