Do I have to have root canal treatment in order to have an implant?

April 27th, 2012
Q.

Please take time to go over my problem. six weeks ago about i was given advice by my dentist to have one of my front teeth crowned.I agreed and then five weeks later the crown fell out.I went back to my dentist who has temporaliy glued the crown back in and now says i will have to have a post fitted. Looking at various websites out there available I can only find information on root canal post. Can you only have a post if you have had root canal treatment. The remaining part of the tooth which is left is fine and i’m in no discomfort. Thanks for your time

Can you tell me what I can do about a poor dental implant and crown?

April 27th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr craig. I had to have two teeth replaced a while back and did so with a dental implant. for cost reasons the dentist recommend i had two crowns on one implant. Considering I wasn’t a massive fan then I am indeed less of a fan now. one of the teeth that sits directly on top of the implant is fine but the one that is ‘stuck’ off the side is not. it feels like it rubs on the neighbouring real tooth and underlying gum. I know this is hard to describe, how he did it, but consider a space of two teeth, one normal implant with a crown on replacing one tooth but then having a ‘floating’ crown stuck to the other crown to fill the gap. what should have been done and what can be done to rectify this considering all my other teeth are there and healthy? thanks

I have bridges that have protruded as my teeth have moved, what should I do?

April 27th, 2012
Q.

i was missing my ‘I’ teeth, and had my baby ones extracted. I also have a severe over bite and had treatment for this with a brace. The dentists tried to create a gap big enough to fit bridges in, and move my front teeth off centre to do so. The bridges were inserted, but over time, these are now protruding as my teeth have moved. My dentist will not do any work as they say it is cosmetic. They are so embararssing and people stare. It has affected me a lot. What can I do?

Can you only receive the ‘All on four’ treatment on the bottom jaw?

April 27th, 2012
Q.

Hi there Mr Craig. I am trying to find out about dental implants and the all on four treatment more precisely. I am thinking about getting dental implants and as with anything like this or buying products that are big deals I check out user reviews and such like. anyway I have found that people really like the treatment and that nobody had regretted getting them done. I am going to need full dentures but I have only read about people getting the all on four treatment on the bottom jaw. Is there a reason for this or can I have all on four on both jaws? and finally what are your thoughts on the procedure is it a good one? thank you

I have suffered a catalogue of errors at the hands of my implant dentist and need to know how to put them right?

April 27th, 2012
Q.

Hello… 3 weeks ago i had a post and cap fitted to cover a tooth which had broken. This treatment was completed by my NHS dentist but cost me £295. I was still suffering pain so i returned to my dentist, she x-rayed the tooth and tells me that the post has perforated my gum as i have a bowed maxilla (she new about this prior to tretament)and i will require a specialist to put this right, as she is unable to complete the repair. I have been quoted £455 on top of the original £295 i have already paid. She has given me some antibiotics and is now suggesting that a bridge, at a similar cost to the repair, may be an option. I have 3 questions, which i hasten to add i have already posed to my dentist, however she is simply brushing them aside and steering me toward another practitioner within our practice for the repair treatment.. 1.Since this is treatment that has not gone according to plan through no fault of my own, should i have to pay for the repair? 2. could the bridge have been an option in the first place? and finally, 3. what health risks am i now facing with a perforated gum?

Can you help me understand implants when replacing teeth?

April 27th, 2012
Q.

I have been told by my dentist that I am going to need dental implants to replace several of the teeth in my upper mouth. I am okay with this idea but I don’t really understand how this works. From what I’ve read the implant acts as the root of the tooth yes? But then what will be the actual tooth? This is the part I don’t get? Whatever it is will it be included in the price? they are four teeth (all next to each other), whats the best way to replace teeth in that scenario? thanks

April 24th, 2012
Q.

HI as the owner of a local corner shop I am constantly being in the face of the public. I have had work to my teeth done previously on the NHS but I am not sure if I can dentures on it. problem is I have only got 6 bottom teeth remaining and 9 on top and some of these are being rotten and want to be gone. I was wondering whether dentures are available on the NHS or would I have to be going private? will the teeth stop me eating certain foods my own curry has beef and is chewy I do not want to be loosing my teeth in it? which arises another issue- the sauces in curry stain plates yellow- I cannot be having bright yellow teeth will this happen or are they like real teeth?

I lost a lot of bone after treatment for open bite, can I now replace that bone?

April 24th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr 14 years ago i had a problem called open bite.It was ok and didnt bother me but a dentist told me i will look better without it and this can be done by removing the 4 front teeth and putting a bridge. The dentist removed ,unfortunately substantial amount of bones from the upper jaw + the 4 front teeth and he put the bridge – nine units. My look changed greatly as the upper lips went down and lost support which changed my face( to a sad look ) + too many teeth appear when i smile or talk they apear so unnatural and in on staright line . doctors said there is no solution and you have to stay like this or else the look might worsen if we tried to do another bridge. My question:can we reimplant bones on the upper jaw &redo another bridge ? what should I look to do?
