Can gum disease be present around implants?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

hello Chris, I have used this site before and you yourself had given me good advise at the time. thank you for doing this for me and I greatly appreciate it. I do have another question for you however- more of an after care type. I was thinking about contracting gum disease and having permanent dentures when I found out you can’t get gum disease. I did not find this out of an expert lol anything but! seems true though would you say this is the case? if not whilst I have my implant dentures in (because I cant take them out whenever I feel) are there any problems along the same lines that I can get? I’m just worried in-case there’s something I don’t know and it ruins my new smile. and how can I prevent anything happening in the first place thanks once again for everything

Having survived years with only a few missing teeth I am no set to loose them all for dentures, what should I expect?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

I have survived for years with only two or three missing teeth. Earlier this year I then had to have three extracted from my bottom jaw which was a horrendous experience. but after a lengthy session in hospital I am now struggling with gum disease which got progressively worse as I was a vegetable and couldn’t do much inside. my dentist has now told me that I may have to have the remainder of my lower teeth out as they are in serious dis-repair and have increased mobility. I am absolutely shell shocked as I will now have to have full dentures for the bottom jaw. could you please help me know what to expect and is there anything I can do to help the adjustment period If I do get them? cheers

How do I spot a good dentists and how much will dentures cost for me?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi Andrew Taylor, I want dentures to replace a batch of missing bottom teeth. I am not havin it done a t my regular dentist as he recently shut down and at a prime 50 I don’t want to compromise on treatment. I have done a bit of searching around and have found a few things of interest to myself. firstly how do I spot a ‘good’ dentist/orthodontist whichever that provides dentures (and which of the two would?). also what is a clinical dental Technician? my main question however is , how much would it cost to have a set of five dentures made up three being on the left side of my mouth (lower- from (& including) back tooth) and the other two being opposite on the right (second from back an neighbour). obviouly I know process can vary from dentists but approximately how much am I looking at? thank you

Could dental implants help me with my lower denture?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Mr Oxley, hi, Could you please aid me with a query I have about my dentures and possible dental implants. I had these dentures fitted about four months ago and was told they would fit by using suction- which they do not and that if in this instance they didnt try some fixative- i have tried them all now and none of them seem to work. the dentures do have some stability and could be a lot worse all this is secondary to the main problem, I cannot seem to get used to having them sat on my gums the way they do I only have a full lower set. the pressure they exert is uncomfortable. I was wondering whether dental implants would help me with these issues? what do you think?

I think my dentures have cut my gum, they certainly don’t fit well! What’s a reline?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

dear Sandra, I am having a problem with my gum and denture. I am actually having two but one is immediate, I hae a cut on my gum, I cant remember cutting it myself but this is not impossible, however it is right where my dentures stop and this naturally irritates it which means not only does it hurt but that it wont heal whilst im wearing my dentures and im not being funny but do I have to walk around with no top teeth as a result of a cut? what do you think. secondly the denture doesn’t actually fit very well and may be the cause of the cut, its certainly the cause of the play in the the dentures that is now irritating the cut. I have an upper set of dentures for all the the top row, my dentist mentioned a re-line? i missed it briefly then realised later so I popped on here, what is a re-line could I ask? thanks for your help

What advances have been made in manufacturing dentures?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hello this question is about my dentures, I don’t need a diagnosis but wanted to ask you about modern dentures. I have worn dentures not for a good few years and am fifty three. what I want ot know is, are dentures getting more realistic? or are these only available for large sums of money. the thing is I have been receiving generic sorts of dentures for a while and to me they dont look quite right somehow but ive heard of a few people my age that they are getting dentures that will look like their old teeth used to before? is this possible and if so how do I go about getting a set that look like my old teeth as opposed to wind up snappers? thank you Mr Sharpling

My dentures have started squeaking! What is it?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

hello, my dentures have developed a really annoying trait. They, for some reason unknown have a really annoying squeek everytime I bite. I thought that maybe some fixative would sort out the situation but it didnt, all that succeeded in doing was making it feel weird as well, I have never needed to use fixatives as my dentures have always fit really well, my dentist told me at when I first had them that this could b the case. Im just worried now that something had changed and literally every time I put pressure on them the top one gives a little squeek, driving me crazy. its not just the once where I might have put them in funny but every time! what could be the cause of this?

Is it possible for dentures to wear down and make your face look older?

November 11th, 2011
Q.

Marc,
I have worn my dentures now for about four and a half years. My friend who also is a denture wearer has her dentures changed every sort of three years/three and a half and suspects that the droopy look around my mouth is because of this? I had suspected that it was just me getting older but on a closer look the teeth seem smaller than before? I might be looking for something that isnt there but I dont know? would you say either of these things can happen, would the teeth wear down to a noticeable extent then affect the rest of my face? if so why is this and how do I sort it out? thank you for reading this

How can I stabilise my dentures?

November 10th, 2011
Q.

hi NICK :) I have got a full set of both dentures for my top teeth and bottom teeth, complete set, the stability of the dentures is not great and I heard about having implants off a friend and thought to check it out online. other than the slight lack of stability I am overall quite happy with the dentures I have and feel that they do look really natural, no body has ever commented negatively anyway. with regards to having implants fitted would it be better to have a new set of dentures made ready made for the implants or generally speaking is it easier for the dentist to just fit implants to my jaw and use the existing dentures? any help would indeed help point me in the right direction, thanks
