Would I be able to get dental implants to retain my current dentures?

May 14th, 2012
Q.

I was wondering whether you coul help me with an implant issue that i am having. I have two implants on my lower jaw and have had them for some time I also have partial dentures in and around the sites of these implants as i only have three teeth left on the lower jaw that are still natural, however their health has deteriorated dramatically and they will probably have to be removed. I have been looking at what options i have and I came across dental implants for dentures. Would it be possible to use the implant sites of my current implants to retain dentures with? that would be ideal, they are located pretty much opposite each other on the lower jaw two and three teeth from the back on the left and right respectively. what do you think?Any advice that you have would be greatly appreciated.

Would I be able to find a new dentist to help with my painful dentures?

May 14th, 2012
Q.

Hello I have just moved house and region completely I used to live down near Sussex but I now live in Sheffield.and as such I have left behind all kinds of things good and bad including my dentist. I was not on the NHS I was private. If I was on the NHS would it be possible for me to just walk into another clinic? anyway I wear partial dentures and I have got a really painful ache in one of my rear teeth on the bottom left (one of a few teeth that remain, which for a long time was used for the clasp to hold onto- I had a flexi denture fitted about nine months ago though do It hasnt been clasped). If I came to you citing this problem what would be your initial thoughts and what would you be looking for? I need to take as much informations as i can to a new dentist.

What options do I have after breaking a denture after a fall?

May 11th, 2012
Q.

Hi Mr Taylor. I last spoke to you on here about getting dentures and denture retention. Thank you for your help it did point me in the right direction. I ended up going privately to a CDT to have a unique pair made up. I then had them put on dental implants. I cannot tell you how much better they feel for me- not having to worry about them falling out when I’m chewing, how they look etc. I now have an unfortunate problem and my local CDT is away for a further week or so. I had a bad fall the other day and noticed a crack in the denture- I paid it no attention as it just looked a small crack but then when I ate the cracked area broke off completely. what options are available when fixing them now they have been implanted? thanks again

Can dentures give you wrinkles?

May 11th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Taylor. have had dentures now for about nine years and have started to get wrinkles. they are not ‘old’ wrinkles and if they im very unfortunate because im only 51 (fit and healthy 51 year old with otherwise good skin tightness/complexion etc)and at that they are specifically only around my mouth and im convinced its due to my dentures. the wrinkles aren’t properly deep like ‘old’ wrinkles its just the skin looks saggy and aged if you will in this area. like I said I’m convinced this is due to the dentures but can this be the case- can dentures actually age your face! it sounds ridiculous and I don’t know how they would but I can’t see anything else. I have had this set of dentures for about four years but am really happy with them as they fit brilliantly in terms of retention they are absolutely fine. what can I do?

Can restorative work be carried out on an old existing implant?

May 11th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Rosenbaum. I have had advice from yourself possibly off here before I remembered you but not the site so I don’t know? anyway My sister visited you not long back as she lives just bath Matlock bath, I live a little further away but with our two experiences combined I figured it’d be worth coming down to see you when I can get a day off. I need restorative work on an implant I had done years ago if that’s possible? I had It done at the time at an NHS dentist that then went private and then shut. we received notice that our records would be transferred to another dentist not so far away, but it’s really poor I don’t like it there at all. basically this implant was put in a good few years ago and is now causing me a bit of discomfort everything around it feels tight (I have always brushed etc so should be healthy). Is it possible for problems like this to arise and what can be done if I can get down? cheers

Hi is the All-On-Four treatment Ok when being used on the upper jaw?

May 11th, 2012
Q.

TO: MR OXLEY
Please could you help me with a problem I have had with my dentures. My dentist started doing dental implants for dentures fairly recently. I looked into this as a denture wearer and thought it an amazing idea as I’d had problem retaining my dentures. I opted to have an all on four treatment? this was for both jaws with full dentures. the top denture though seems to have come lose toward to back right hand side. I asked another dentist what could be done about it and got no answer really but he did say that he should have perhaps placed more implants in my top jaw in order to retain the denture better as this one was harder to do? that was a second opinion now I’m after a third and possibly decisive one. what do you think of the situation, should he have placed more or is four fine?if so what can i do it’s quite uncomfortable

What are my options when having partial dentures?

May 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Sharpling. I think I am going to need partial dentures and want to put off having full dentures for as long as possible. I had a tooth removed a while ago and left it without implant as I felt that it was only a matter of time before I had another removed in a similar region where a brdge may have been used. now though it looks as though i am going to need more than one more tooth extracting after a bad spell of gum disease. I think I have got it to a point where its receeding but the damage to a good few teeth in a concentrated area to the left of my lower jaw has been done. If they need to be removed and I have partial dentures could you please tell me what to expect and is it worth having them implanted or should I just have them as being removable and wait and see? cheers

I have broken a tooth and caused trauma to the neighboring tooth what’s the procedure for replacing them?

May 8th, 2012
Q.

hello, dear expert. I was wondering if I had a bridge how long it would take? I have a broken tooth which has apparently caused trauma to the neighboring tooth? it doesn’t even sound possible to me? however if I have to have these teeth pulled then I will obviously need to replace them. I’d assume the best way to do this would be with a bridge so I was wondering how long it would take from start to finish? if there’s another option beit; better, quicker, comfier or looks better could you also let me know please, thanks

What’s the procedure for having dentures I’m nervous as I suffer from dental phobia

May 1st, 2012
Q.

Hi there i suffer from dental phobia but have been told I need to have a few of my teeth extracted as I have neglected my dentist over the last few years and clearly home care wasn’t good enough. The back four bottom left teeth are the teeth in question as two of them are infected and all are wobbly, we looked at root canal but they’re to unstable. anyway I wanted to know what the procedure is for having dentures in this area? the process is one thing quite but will there be any pain/discomfort involved in the whole process? also how long will it take to have four teeth extracted can it be done in one session or will it take more than one. thank you for your time

I don’t think my implant was put in right, should I complain?

May 1st, 2012
Q.

had a dental implant inserted into my upper jaw to replace a canine last week. During the procedure the implant cracked my bone and burst through my gum so that I have had to have extra stitches. The dentist has now said I may need a bone graft. Does this happen often or have I got grounds to make a complaint?
