A tooth near a poorly executed attempt at an implant has darkened. What does this mean?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, when I was young I had an implant to replace a missing tooth. This implant caused a lot of problems when it was put in. I left that particular dentist (which has since shut down so that tells you all you need to know). I went and had a second opinion at another dentist and he said the work was really shody and should never have been allowed.I then had a lot of restorative work done which I couldn’t tell you the details of, in order to put it right. for years this seemed to have done the trick. now however the tooth right next to it has begun to appear darker and darker which apparently indicated that the tooth is dead. I have a pretty good diet so could this be because of the implant? if so what can i do about it? thanks

Are my gums receding as a result of poorly made/fitted dentures?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

dear expert could you please help me with a problem I have been having wioth my dentures for some time now. I have had dentures now for around three years and and am on my second set now. I have heard of problems people had due to ill fitting dentures. Things like discomfort etc. the thing is I have never encountered any of these problems and have been quite satisfied withthat side of things. However I have seen, over this period of time that my gums have actually diminished! I noticed not long back and after tha I cant help but notice and any progression seems to be noticable to me. is this happening as a result of a poorly made denture or is this normal. thank you.

Are there different types of partial dentures and what makes them different?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

hi, could you please advise me on what to do about partial dentures. I have been told that there are more than one kind of partial denture. I was initially dead set against them but I am now more open to the idea purely through curiosity as to what different options are available. Could you please tell me a little bit about the different types of partial dentures and how these will help me? thank you very much

I have a few wobbly teeth which might need removing. Could you advise my next move please?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I have suffered from gum disease due to smoking and my gums have receded dramatically resulting in a very large gap between my front teeth. I have inquired about veneers and my dentist initially sad it should be fine. At my last appointment he when I asked about starting the procedure he said in around 2 months he would take an xray to check if the bone was suitable. I have noticed that my leftside front tooth is very wobbly and this is causing me great distress but doesn’t appear to concern my dentist at all! I’m 31 yrs old and a false tooth on a palate is not an option for me, would veneers be the right option or is a crown possible? when I asked about a bridge for another tooth my dentist refused. I’m really quite concerned that I’ll loose my tooth and want to pre-emt a toothless smile! what are my options? Thanks in advance for any advice

What are my best options when replacing teeth after work accident?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

good afternoon Colin. I need to know what would be the best option when considering tooth replacement. I have lost seven teeth on my upper jaw all together, one of them was replaced with an implant and crown after loosing it to decay/gum disease. the other six were all lost in a bad incident at work following a broken a bit of equipment which was horrendous. I have been compensated for this incident and am looking to get the correct/best treatment. I was hoping you could inform me as to whether a partial denture would be better than going for implants at this stage as I still have a good few teeth left that are in good health. what are your initial thoughts as to rectify the situation, thanks

How do full dentures retain themselves if partial dentures use existing teeth?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi I’m looking at having a denture and in my journey have heard both good and things about them. I have a partial denture right now and am not a big fan, its metal and uses my other teeth for retention. If I have a full denture how exactly will it retain itself or am I required to use that fixative stuff? Also I would like to know if there will be a big difference when I make the jump from this partial denture to a full one? I have a photo of how my teeth used to look and intend to use this to make my new dentures which I have also heard is possible? thanks for your time Mr taylor.

How far has denture technology advanced and will I be able to eat anything with a new set?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi Sandra I need to know a few things about dentures please. just to put my mind at ease if you would. it looks as though I am about to loose the remainder of my teeth as a few of them are wobbly and the others have decayed quite badly. Though this is annoying I will deal with it. I have heard a lot about retention issues and eating certain foods being a problem over the years when it comes to dentures, though on the other hand I am told regularly that dentures have come on leaps and bounds and are no longer the same as the wind up teeth type! I was wondering If the had come on as far to say I could eat anything I wanted? could you let me know of any kind of restrictions that modern dentures bring, thanks

Can you suggest alternative treatments for my son’s amelogenesis imperfecta?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi. My son (6 yrs )has a condition (forgot the name )on his teeth. The enamel on his baby teeth did not develop and it appears his new teeth will be affected also. So far we have been able to cover the top teeth with a resin substance to improve the appearance – but it does fall off frequently. He has regular visits to the dentist. Can you suggest any alternative treatments to improve the appearance of the new teeth breaking through or is the resin the only temporary solution until all his teeth are fully grown ? Thanks

If I have dentures could I use the two abutments from my old crown implants?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hello Sandra, I have two implants in my lower jaw and as a result of having some natural teeth left. I have however lost these teeth, I lost them about four months ago. now I just look like I have a couple of missing teeth, the thing is i actually have a combination of things going on here, implants, partial dentures and missing teeth. I want my teeth/false teeth consolidating. I would like a full set of dentures to replace everything, If I have the dentures implants would I be able to use the abutments from my crowns or would I have to have new ones as these are at either side of my mouth si I see no reason why not. finally, sorry about this, what is the price of a full set of lower dentures on implants, approximately as i assum the vary person to person?

I hate my dentures. Can you offer me a way out with implants?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I have recieved m first set of dentures and I hate them! Naturtally I have been told that it will take some time to adapt to the new dentures but I really am not comfortable with them. I have read a lot and indeedd heard from my dentist, of rave reviews about dental implants. There is two things that i want to know about having dental implants if you will please. If i have dental implants how many is ‘the norm’ and will i have to have them in these dentures or can i have new made (will it be a big price difference?)? as these dont even look particularly good! cheers
