I lost a lot of bone after treatment for open bite, can I now replace that bone?

April 24th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr 14 years ago i had a problem called open bite.It was ok and didnt bother me but a dentist told me i will look better without it and this can be done by removing the 4 front teeth and putting a bridge. The dentist removed ,unfortunately substantial amount of bones from the upper jaw + the 4 front teeth and he put the bridge – nine units. My look changed greatly as the upper lips went down and lost support which changed my face( to a sad look ) + too many teeth appear when i smile or talk they apear so unnatural and in on staright line . doctors said there is no solution and you have to stay like this or else the look might worsen if we tried to do another bridge. My question:can we reimplant bones on the upper jaw &redo another bridge ? what should I look to do?

I have had a tooth removed and have been told to do nothing with it but can this be right?

April 17th, 2012
Q.

I’ve had one bottom molar removed due to apsorbtion of the nerve. All my other teeth are heathy. My speech has been affected. My dentist says nothing can be done for 6months after extraction and that I should allow the teeth to close the gap on its own because my wisdom teeth are partially through. Im 39 years old. Is he accurate what can I do about my speech and this awful gap?
Many Thanks

Can you suggest alternative treatments for my son’s amelogenesis imperfecta?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi. My son (6 yrs )has a condition (forgot the name )on his teeth. The enamel on his baby teeth did not develop and it appears his new teeth will be affected also. So far we have been able to cover the top teeth with a resin substance to improve the appearance – but it does fall off frequently. He has regular visits to the dentist. Can you suggest any alternative treatments to improve the appearance of the new teeth breaking through or is the resin the only temporary solution until all his teeth are fully grown ? Thanks

I suffer from dental phobia but need to have teeth out and a CT scan, can you tell me more about it?

January 11th, 2012
Q.

hi Nick, I suffer really badly from dental phobia but I recently amassed the courage to go to the dentist for the first time in about three years and was told that I may need to have a lot of teeth extracted (5 at once!) I’m told they have to be at once if want sedation. I’m no good with medical/dental scenarios and have had since I was little claustrophobia. I talked on the phone to my dentist where he said I will at some stage need a CT scan to see if I can then have implants to increase the longevity of my dentures. what I want to know is do I have to have the CT scan and what is like? will I have my head put in something? I don’t particularly want to go and don’t know what to do. could you tell me about the CT scans and anything else involved in getting dental implanted dentures that you think I may not like, thank you.
