My dentures aren’t great, can you tell me all about getting implants for them?

May 16th, 2012
Q.

hi, Im 60 and have worn dentures now for many years, approximately 30. the pair I have now I have had for around one year and they don’t fit very well, I have done a bit off online research and asked about and I have heard that basically the answer lies within dental implants and having them secured in place. would you firstly concur with this that it is a good method or is it only used in certain/more extreme cases? I need to know everything about this procedure and don’t expect you to provide me with all the details right now. but for now could you tell me whether it is possible to apply dental implants to any set of dentures or will i have to go through having even more made (would this be recommended practice or not) and how much can this process cost?

What’s the best way to replace 4 missing teeth?

October 17th, 2011
Q.

Dr, ive lost 4 teeth on my bottom jaw, I wanted to know at what point would you switch from implants to dentures? like if you loose a tooth there’s no question- singular implant likewise if you loose them all, dentures. at least thats what i always thought is that actually the case anymore or do advances mean you can have them the other way round? so like me with my four missing teeth what would you say is best x4 single implants with their own respective roots or would you get one implant (attached point) with 4 teeth on, oooor would you go with dentures? i might be completely off track could you help and advise please? thankyou

Won’t dental implants ruin my oral hygiene routine?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

ive had dentures for some time now, approximately 18 months. and have never been able to bite or eat properly as they never felt secure enough. for a large amount of time i suspected this was just me needing to get used to them as I accepted they would never replaced my old original teeth. the thing is they are good looking dentures as far as dentures go and nobody has ever commented on my teeth in a negative way- only positives which is always nice. ive read a bit about being able to have implants on your dentures in order to secure them on a permanent basis. the issue i have with this is that when had them i was told i HAD to take them out from time to time in order to clean them and if i have them implanted for good i wont be able to do this? what are the issues regarding this procedure when it comes to cleaning and do you think implanting his pair of dentures would solve this problem? thank you in advance

How can I solve my nice dentures that won’t sit still?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

I have had dntures for sometime now and they look ok, considering (as far as im concerned) they had the hardest job to look normal being one of my front teeth (on top) all the way back the front tooth of the dentures is amazing and looks exactly the same as the real corresponding tooth. the problem is that it doesn’t stick to the gum well enough, every time i put them on i fixative them up, press like hell and as soon as i let go they drop down by like a tiny amount. but you can tell. as soon at drops down it seems half my gum is at a different level but its not it seems to me to be the denture or the fixative. if i had dental implants to hold them on would thy be able to pull them up onto the gum as well as possible and keep them there? te thing is that there is enough flexibility in my gum to get them level ie when i push up on the dentures they line up before dropping bak down as if the gums saggy. so if i had implants would they be more pulled in or would they sit the dentures where they do now just permanently?

Can dental implants help me and how much do they cost?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

hi, I have had three sets of dentures made up for me and no matter what the never seem to fit right. I was thinking that if I can have the second set I had made (which sort of fitted but wouldn’t stay put) fitted with implants and permanently attached to my upper jaw . do you think this would aid the situation? my dentist says that this particular pair was the right shape for my mouth just that the area of gum available means its awkward to try and get them to stick (because they are apparently quite thin), that’s when we tried something a bit different with the third pair but that didn’t work.If implants would be able to help how much would it usually cost to have this type of procedure and how long would i be without my dentures whilst it was all being sorted out?

What stops someone being a candidate for dentures?

October 13th, 2011
Q.

what problems can occur that would stop somebody being a good candidate for denture/dental implants. over the last few years my oral hygiene has probably not been what it should be and as such I am worried that I might not be able to just have them without having some form of dental surgery or something first.
can you just ‘have’ dental implants or is there a criteria is what I mean. I’m looking to compare any common/potential issues to any I may have had or may still have but there’s no way I can’t be sure on my own and research findings on the internet through search engines etc. are not perfectly tailored to my question and as a result the answer is never what im actually looking for! I need to know what to look out for if you don’t mind Dr, thanks a lot, both for your time and attention. cheers
