Should I have flexible or stiff denture?

May 16th, 2012
Q.

I have incisors and canines only in the upper jaw. My lower jaw has no missing tooth. I am 56 years old and a smoker. Kindly what kind of denture will be suitable for me? Flexible or stiff. My doctor says that implant is only done if I will quit smoking. I understand that smoking harms the health and I have tried couple of times but unable to quit.

I have ill fitting dentures and would like some new ones. But I have bone loss. What can be done?

May 14th, 2012
Q.

Hi Ms Davey-Snuggs. I have been a denture wearer for four years now. I have never been particularly happy with them but I don’t think that can be helped! I have had the same pair since the start when I had my remaining teeth out. I think this may be the root of the problem I’m having with them. they seem short to me, they don’t fit the same as they used to and no matter what I do they look tatty.I was thinking about getting new- full dentures and wondered whether you could just help guide me through this as to what I should be doing and considering? any help will obviously help point me in the right direction, cheers

How do I go about getting a pair of dentures that look like my natural teeth?

April 13th, 2012
Q.

Hello Sandra I have opted to have dentures towards the middle of this year, considering I have to have teeth removed and what not. my main concern is that they will not look good and I am inundated with tales whereby dentures don’t stay in place. I know that you can now have dentures made to look like your natural teeth used to. could I ask both how do they do this and how long does it take to have dentures made that look as natural as this as i assume this is a longer process? thanks

Is it possible for me to have dental implants to retain my dentures?

April 13th, 2012
Q.

Hello. Sandra Could you please help me out. I have had dentures for fifteen years now and had decided (as I’m not to far off needing a new pair now) to look into getting dental implants as I was a bit fed up with having to pass up the opportunity of a steak etc. I went to see my dentist to sort out the relevancies. He insisted I was better off not having them due to the fact a bone in the front of my chin had reduced to much- as a result of wearing dentures for this long. He seems like he cant be bothered which made me question whether he’s saying that for the sake of it. Is this possible to happen? thank you I’d really been looking forwards to this.

I have crowns and other dental restoration, will these have to be removed to fit my dentures?

April 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I’m thinking of getting dentures as I may indeed need them soon. I am looking to gather as much information as i can before proceeding further. when I have collated enough information I will consult my dentist and the specialist that does the dentures. My problem is that I have had a lot of restorative procedures in order to save as much of my natural teeth as possible. there’s a two veneered teeth a filled tooth and a couple of crowns. the fillings and the veneers will come out with the teeth im not bothered about them, what I want to know is what you would do with the crown and abutment when fitting dentures? thank you

How far has denture technology advanced and will I be able to eat anything with a new set?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi Sandra I need to know a few things about dentures please. just to put my mind at ease if you would. it looks as though I am about to loose the remainder of my teeth as a few of them are wobbly and the others have decayed quite badly. Though this is annoying I will deal with it. I have heard a lot about retention issues and eating certain foods being a problem over the years when it comes to dentures, though on the other hand I am told regularly that dentures have come on leaps and bounds and are no longer the same as the wind up teeth type! I was wondering If the had come on as far to say I could eat anything I wanted? could you let me know of any kind of restrictions that modern dentures bring, thanks

Can you suggest alternative treatments for my son’s amelogenesis imperfecta?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi. My son (6 yrs )has a condition (forgot the name )on his teeth. The enamel on his baby teeth did not develop and it appears his new teeth will be affected also. So far we have been able to cover the top teeth with a resin substance to improve the appearance – but it does fall off frequently. He has regular visits to the dentist. Can you suggest any alternative treatments to improve the appearance of the new teeth breaking through or is the resin the only temporary solution until all his teeth are fully grown ? Thanks

If I have dentures could I use the two abutments from my old crown implants?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hello Sandra, I have two implants in my lower jaw and as a result of having some natural teeth left. I have however lost these teeth, I lost them about four months ago. now I just look like I have a couple of missing teeth, the thing is i actually have a combination of things going on here, implants, partial dentures and missing teeth. I want my teeth/false teeth consolidating. I would like a full set of dentures to replace everything, If I have the dentures implants would I be able to use the abutments from my crowns or would I have to have new ones as these are at either side of my mouth si I see no reason why not. finally, sorry about this, what is the price of a full set of lower dentures on implants, approximately as i assum the vary person to person?

How long does it actually take to get used to dentures?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

I recently had dentures and I cannot get used to them when i had them they told me that they would take a while to get used to but that they would eventually ‘conform’ so to speak and I would be able to wear them as normal without any issues. the thing is ive had them for about six months and amongst other things I keep biting my tongue and even sometimes my cheek- things i never did when I had my real teeth (aside from the now and again kind of instances) but now it’s happening al the time, usually im lucky to go a day without this occurring! could you please advise as to why this is, is it normal? and does getting used to dentures take days/weeks or is it usually longer term?

My teeth are a mess. What can I do about them without spending £20,000?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

hi,my teeth are a real mess, not decaying or anything just look terrible.as a kid i didnt look after them, started not brushing much to not atall when they got so bad,it was painfull to brush, finally got the courage to go to the dentist at 18 (10 years ago) top marks to the guy he saved all but 3 of my teeth.Ive look after them since but as evry tooth in my mouth had fillings on the front they are now waring away and very discolured,i had root canal on all my molars,i have gold coloured crowns.my big thing is i had two false teeth fixed in my mouth on pin things that have fallen out,my top front teeth both have fillings to correct(apple core)i think thats what my dentist called it,these fillings need replacing. My dentist used to polish and do any fillings and stuff when i went for check ups.Problem is he left the practice about four years ago,i now dont have a dentist as such, just a dentist i can go and see if i get an absess(which i get reguly on the same tooth since my treatment ten years ago). This guy wont treat my missing false teeth or give me check ups which i am in desperate need of,my original treatment was on the nhs,he just says he wont touch me on the nhs,im stuck with no dentist and no idea where to go or what to do,i dont see how i cant be treatable by my original dentist and not the new one who just says all he can do is rip them all out(im not a dentist but i know that they dont need taking out because what was the point in saving then in the first place)im never going to have a hollywood smile i cant afford 20 grand,i just need some advice on what to do,all i need is fillings replaced and two new false things putting in.I cant find a dentist because of the state of my teeth, its like i could have treatment when i was young but not now? sorry for the essay but im so depressed it rules life at the min, knowing ive looked after them and now cant see anyone because of the extent of the work i had done and needs doing. any help where to go,who to ring it doesnt have to be nhs,i can go private for fillings i just cant and will never be able to pay 20 grand for pearly whites. thankyou.
