I have had a tooth removed and have been told to do nothing with it but can this be right?

April 17th, 2012
Q.

I’ve had one bottom molar removed due to apsorbtion of the nerve. All my other teeth are heathy. My speech has been affected. My dentist says nothing can be done for 6months after extraction and that I should allow the teeth to close the gap on its own because my wisdom teeth are partially through. Im 39 years old. Is he accurate what can I do about my speech and this awful gap?
Many Thanks

Why do people’s dentures always come loose and how do I prevent it?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

hello Mr Patterson
Please could you help me, I have been trying to some internet research on dentures yet all I can find is people who have issues with dentures and how they wont stay put. I have had my dentures now for a good few years and I havent had this problem, I am now trying to safeguard this if you will in that I dont want to have the dentures come loose at any point in the future. Is there any measure I can take to stop this occurring , If not i am seeing it as inevitable, have you ever had cases where somebody has had a full lifetime of retained dentures without any other support? thanks

My dentures clearly are not correctly sized. What’s the deal?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

HI. I live just outside Lincoln. I am seeking out a new dentist as I need to have another pair of dentures made. my dentist got all touchy when I told him I needed a new pair of dentures as the ones am wearing are not at all comfortable. I have just received this pair after having all the necessities carried out abuot two years ago and should apparently now have these for five years. I can’t wear them for five minutes let alone five years. they are clearly too large and catch the edge of my tonsils on the bottom. this makes me heave and I dont want that. How do I find a new dental clinic that is ‘good’ in my area and what should I do about these dentures? thanks for any help.

Is it better to get a partial denture or dental implants?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

hello..
I recently gave birth to my first child which took its turn in more ways than one. my oral hygiene took a hit as I couldnt exercise it properly. I’m told that over eight days or so gums can go from healthy to having contracted gingivitis. to be honest my gums weren’t in the best of health before pregnancy and as a result of all the eating and the lack of hygiene I have lost a few teeth that were questionable at best before- and now gone. there’s three all on the top row two next to each other and one on its own. As they are all on the same arch would you suggest its better to get a part denture or three implants? at the present I would prefer a denture but Is this the best option? thanks

My dentures feel to big. What could be the cause?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

hello MrPatteson, I have what is now my second set of dentures but my first proper set. the other set was just for me to get used to and for my mouth to develop. this set though feels really big- bigger than the other which i wore for two years so its not like im not used to them. to exaggerate my point a little bit it looks like I have a gum shield in when my mouth is shut. its not quite that bad but my lips do look stretched over them. I haven’t yet confired with my dentist as I want to know where i stand before doing so. Would I be entitled to have another pair made or wuld i have to pay for this? thank you for your time Mr patteson.

What is the best form of denture currently available?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

I am curious as to what is the thinnest type of denture that is currently being made, and if there are thinner mini implants that can be used in some cases.. I want them to look like real teeth as much as this can be done and not look like they are in any way  fake. I have a set of dentures now that I am wearing, but they are very bulky, and I am having trouble with them already. The bottom ones are called floating dentures. I have looked online and have seen several different kinds, but I am not sure what kind to look at next. I hope you have time to answer this.

Are my gums receding as a result of poorly made/fitted dentures?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

dear expert could you please help me with a problem I have been having wioth my dentures for some time now. I have had dentures now for around three years and and am on my second set now. I have heard of problems people had due to ill fitting dentures. Things like discomfort etc. the thing is I have never encountered any of these problems and have been quite satisfied withthat side of things. However I have seen, over this period of time that my gums have actually diminished! I noticed not long back and after tha I cant help but notice and any progression seems to be noticable to me. is this happening as a result of a poorly made denture or is this normal. thank you.

How do dentures retain themselves to remain secure?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr How are you you? hope everything is OK. I wondered if you could help me out a little with a bit of advice on dentures and the way they fit. I have read many stories on various occasions whereby the fixatives that patients have used have not been good enough and that people have issues with them. then on the other hand I am reassured of my dentist that a set of well made dentures will fit with out the need for a fixative a lot of the time? I don’t see how this can be the case. could you please tell me how it is that a ‘well made’ set of dentures (full) fit to the roof of your mouth without succumbing to gravity and falling out? if they do and they prove to not be well made at all then what options do I have to stabilise dentures because fixatives seem temperamental. cheers

What should I expect from my dentures?

October 27th, 2011
Q.

hello could you please tell me what to expect from my dentures. Ive been largely toothless for a number of years and now am having dentures I had a few teeth left but they were apparently rotten with tooth decay and have subsequently been removed. i have been online a lot and have seen many instances whereby there has been gum line recession and in some cases bone loss underneath which can cause problems. provided i have none of these things is there any particular issues you can highlight for me that i might encounter when i receive my braces? i understand things with my diet will be an issue but what else? if you could let me know of any problems i might face i would be glad of the information, thank you for listening to my query.

There’s many different types of braces and implants, is this the same with dentures?

October 21st, 2011
Q.

Hi, there what are there different types of dentures? I know it sounds silly but with braces there are something like nine different types with many brands/manufacturers within them, then with implants theres a few different types of them with applications depending on the patients amount/depth/width of jaw which leads me to wonder having entered a phase of potentially needing dentures myself as to whether there different types and if there are there may be one that suits my needs better than another for example and I just wanted to know so I could check it out. I have never given any real thought as to how they are made and how they suit the needs of individual users so if you could please enlighten me I would be very grateful. thank you
