Which denture would you recommend for me after the problems I have had?

May 14th, 2012
Q.

Hi Robert. I have had surgery for cancer of the tongue which has resulted in my tongue being stitched down. it’s horrible. I can’t remember how long the lady said that it would be like this for or whether or not it was forever. I live in Ireland where this is apparently on the rise as well. I smoked for years and this has lead to many problems including this one. Smoking and poor hygiene has also taken it toll on my teeth. I want to have dentures now (probably half dentures as a lot of my teeth on the bottom are still OK whilst other just aren’t. Would having dentures be possible for me? have you seen cases like this before whereby it’s been achieved? thanks

Would I be able to get dental implants to retain my current dentures?

May 14th, 2012
Q.

I was wondering whether you coul help me with an implant issue that i am having. I have two implants on my lower jaw and have had them for some time I also have partial dentures in and around the sites of these implants as i only have three teeth left on the lower jaw that are still natural, however their health has deteriorated dramatically and they will probably have to be removed. I have been looking at what options i have and I came across dental implants for dentures. Would it be possible to use the implant sites of my current implants to retain dentures with? that would be ideal, they are located pretty much opposite each other on the lower jaw two and three teeth from the back on the left and right respectively. what do you think?Any advice that you have would be greatly appreciated.

How do I go about getting a pair of dentures that look like my natural teeth?

April 13th, 2012
Q.

Hello Sandra I have opted to have dentures towards the middle of this year, considering I have to have teeth removed and what not. my main concern is that they will not look good and I am inundated with tales whereby dentures don’t stay in place. I know that you can now have dentures made to look like your natural teeth used to. could I ask both how do they do this and how long does it take to have dentures made that look as natural as this as i assume this is a longer process? thanks

I have crowns and other dental restoration, will these have to be removed to fit my dentures?

April 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I’m thinking of getting dentures as I may indeed need them soon. I am looking to gather as much information as i can before proceeding further. when I have collated enough information I will consult my dentist and the specialist that does the dentures. My problem is that I have had a lot of restorative procedures in order to save as much of my natural teeth as possible. there’s a two veneered teeth a filled tooth and a couple of crowns. the fillings and the veneers will come out with the teeth im not bothered about them, what I want to know is what you would do with the crown and abutment when fitting dentures? thank you

My dentures have been causing a serious aching sensation on the left hand side of my mouth. What can I do?

February 9th, 2012
Q.

Hi Mr Butler, This is not an ideal situation but I find myself on the road and as a result don’t know where a dentist is nearby. I am a lorry driver and spend some time away from home. I am currently stationed in west Sussex but live up north. I will visit my dentist when I get back if I cannot conclude the problem/if its serious. my dentures have been causing a serious aching sensation on the left hand side of my mouth which is enhanced every time I eat. This has resulted in me eating mushier foods, sandwiches with sandwich fillers in, saucy type things instead of bacons/hams etc. and as you imagine that’s just the start its really beginning to grind now. What would you say is the cause of this problem based on your knowledge and experience? thanks

Would I need my implant removed if I was to choose dentures in the future?

February 9th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr I have had an implant in my bottom row on the right for some years now. Unfortunatley it remains the only really good tooth I have as the rest have suffered decay and others, damaged in some cases. I’m planning ahead a little bit here but I may need dentures to replace them, and was wondering if this implant would get in the way? would the crown have to be removed first or would the dentures just slip straight over it? what would be the preceedure? the tooth/implant and crown is just behin what would be my lower right canine if that makes a difference? thanks a lot.

Dentures hurting gums when i chew and feel like bubbles under them. What can I do?

February 8th, 2012
Q.

HI
Mr Taylor could you please help me with my dentures. I had a few problems with them not long back. they were hurting my gum when I chewed and felt like they had bubbles under them which was awful. I went to my dentist who had them re-lined? this did very little for a very little amount of time. They are now doing the same thing and I don’t know what to do. I am wondering whether implants are ow the way to go but if not im left with metal in my mouth, are they good/better? and also do you have any suggestion as to what to do with the previous problems i have been having, thank you very much for your time.

Could you tell me about the standard of dentures available these days?

January 12th, 2012
Q.

Hi there I have been advised by a friend who is a retired dentist that I may need dentures. now its nice to have someone on hand who can keep an eye out (for my kids when it comes to advise on how to brush and all the basics- i myself am beyond help)- Problem is, by his own admission he’s not quite sure where technology is up to in terms of what dentist can do nowadays having been retired for a few years now coupled with the fact I don’t want to end up with the traditional clacking set of teeth too big for my face hiding in a glass of water at the side of the bed sort of thing I wanted too know if the dentures I receive can be made to look like my teeth a few years back as they weren’t quite a generic shape- , my friend recommended if they can id need a photo which I do have, if they can. can you please just fill me in on the possibilities that are/aren’t available, thankyou?

Can I have my dentures stablised with the All on 4 dental implant treatment?

January 4th, 2012
Q.

good afternoon Dr. I have been looking at getting my dentures fitted with implants but am told I can only do this on certain dentures and that mine may not be comply with the work that’s needs doing if you get me. I have had these dentures for about two and a half years now so I have had a good bit of life out of them. can i ask firstly I know your on the implant side but all will be revealed, how long would dentures normally last? and then what I want to know is about the all on four treatment. I have heard that it is really good but dont quite understand it, how is all on four different to any other type of dental implant procedure other than the amount of implants put in place? and also I need full dentures as that’s what I already have would the top be identical to the bottom in design or is there differences? thanks
