I hate my dentures. Would I be able to get All on 4 implants as a replacement?

December 21st, 2012
Q.

Hi. Can you please explain to a 64 year old what all on 4 implants are and how they work? I’m fed up with my dentures, they have never fit me properly and I’m looking for a new dentist who can supply me with a permanent solution. My dentist keeps making mistakes at my expense and it’s costing me a fortune, I’ve not had to suffer with several pairs of ill-fitting dentures for most of my life. As he’s a lovely dentist I never complain but I am desperate for some proper teeth that stay in place. Can you help me? Kind regards,

If I get dentures do I have to have implants too?

December 4th, 2012
Q.

Hi Sandra, I am left a little confused about dentures? I am probably going to need a pair in the near future. I am confused as to what they come with to make them secure? I know that with half dentures you get clamp things for your teeth and I have heard about having implants for full dentures. If I get dentures do I have to get implants separately or do they all come together? (a little bit confused as there are denture AND inmplant experts also on this site?) thanks

Do you think I would be suitable for a partial denture?

October 22nd, 2012
Q.

Hi is need a partial denture I think, I have been told I am not suitable for a bridge in the area needed as I have filled teeth on either side. I do not want implants, I have seen images/ heard stories of failure and it’s completely put me off, as I have only 2 teeth missing I feel a partial denture is in order. however, are there any available that can be fixed? the ones with the clasp won’t suit me, especially in my line of work, I have to give presentations on a daily basis (I am a lecturer) and don’t want a lisp or any struggle talking, What would you suggest I should ask from my dentist? thanks!

The partial denture I was issued with causes me to gag, would a bridge be a better option for me?

August 22nd, 2012
Q.

Hi,i recently had to have 2 upper front teeth removed and was given a partial denture, unfortunatly this makes me gag when i try it in,i cant speak and it just keeps falling out.I am becoming very down with having to hide my mouth because of the big gap, when dropping my children at school/nursery i have to talk through a scarf that i wrap round mouth as am too self conscious.Have been reading up on bridges,is there a time scale that you have to wait after teeth have been removed to see if this is possible and how many teeth can it replace as i have been told a 3rd tooth next to existing gap will also have to be removed.Being a single parent currently on benefits money for dental implants are prob out of the question for me but i dont want to keep hiding away and only going places i really have to because of my mouth.I would be grateful for any advice,Thanks

What would be the best treatment for my missing teeth?

August 16th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Oxley,
I am only 28 but I lost two teeth a few years ago at the back of the mouth on the bottom jaw.I have heard about dentures but always thought of them as being for older people. The two missing teeth don’t really affect me too much but I worry that I am putting extra strain on the other teeth and I tend to use the other side of my mouth when eating.
I would be very grateful if you could advise me on what treatment you think would be best for me?I have thought about dental implants but i don’t really know very much about them and the surgery and cost have put me off so far!

Can you explain what the All on Four system is?

July 10th, 2012
Q.

I have been told that the all on four treatment does not involve dentures as I always thought- but teeth? I dont understand how this can be the case. I though that all on four was basically a denture placed on four implants- though to be fair I cannot see why that is revolutionary! I’m considering this treatment as I ave heard only great things about it but I need to learn more first. thanks

How can I deal with tooth removal due to dentures?

July 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello,I am supposed to be having temp dentures next week. One tooth has already been taking out to the side of my 2 front teeth, the 2 front teeth are due to come out next week and temp dentures put in,my dentist had the “try in”tooth ready last week which was loose and she said my measurements had already changed. We are due to go on holiday in early september and I am worried that if I have had the 2 front teeth out and the dentures I wont be able to eat, talk or smile properly.I had made the descision to have this done but now feel that I am going to chicken out at the last minute. Can you reassure me,the treatment is on NHS
