I have two sets of half dentures and need to make them fit properly but do I have to have impressions?

April 24th, 2012
Q.

Hi, Dear expert I have a question about the dentures I currently have. I wear bottom denture’s that I have had for a while now, my dentist say’s- as a result, my gums at the back have shrunk, as I have own only 8 top teeth its hard for them to fit good, I have top back denture’s which are great, the thing is I dont like getting the impression’s taken ,I cant breath through my nose it’s very uncomfortable,
is it possible you have a scan to make me new teeth without having the impression’s, thanks

I lost a lot of bone after treatment for open bite, can I now replace that bone?

April 24th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr 14 years ago i had a problem called open bite.It was ok and didnt bother me but a dentist told me i will look better without it and this can be done by removing the 4 front teeth and putting a bridge. The dentist removed ,unfortunately substantial amount of bones from the upper jaw + the 4 front teeth and he put the bridge – nine units. My look changed greatly as the upper lips went down and lost support which changed my face( to a sad look ) + too many teeth appear when i smile or talk they apear so unnatural and in on staright line . doctors said there is no solution and you have to stay like this or else the look might worsen if we tried to do another bridge. My question:can we reimplant bones on the upper jaw &redo another bridge ? what should I look to do?

The anchor used for an old implant was used to secure my partial. Can it do the same for full dentures?

April 13th, 2012
Q.

I currently have a partial denture on the top jaw. the excellent thing about it is that I used to have an implant with a crown in the area, we used this for me to have my partial screwed to along with a very ‘weak’ clasp. the clasp was custom as it was barely required. the partial has been amazing for me, literally life changing in terms of the lifestyle I could have. I was wondering though, as it is currently impending, would I be able to do this for full dentures and would it work quite as well? I have a concern that it won’t as this partial is so thin it barely weighs anything but I assume a full denture wouldn’t be the same. thanks for your help in advance

Considering I lost a lot of teeth to gum disease, would it still be possible for me to have implants?

March 29th, 2012
Q.

hi Nick is there anything to stop me having dental implants if I lost a lot of my teeth to gum disease? I have heard that by loosing teeth to gum disease it affects your gum or jaw bone somehow. I don’t know how it would do this or if it could. I lost most of the lower right side of my teeth. and am now looking to have a full lower denture but implanted. could you please advise me on my current situation thank you

Can I use the implants for my crowns to secure dentures on my lower jaw?

March 16th, 2012
Q.

hi Nick I need to know a little bit about dental implants, I have dental anchors/’abutments’ for crowns. I have three of these that are all on the lower jaw. I have however lost more subsequent teeth on the lower jaw and am to have a full set of denture on the lower jaw. my top is mainly OK but I do have and implants and crown at the rear of it. When they make the dentures Im to have the crowns off. I was wondering whether I could use the implants that are already there plus perhaps a fourth ( as two are on one side and one’s on the other) to support the dentures? or ar they completely different fittings? thanks

Am I too young to consider crowns?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

Hi, I’m wondering if you could give me some help and advice. I have had problems with my teeth since I was young, the upper front two came through crossed. I had braces to fix this, however my teeth had been left crossed so long that some of the tooth had worn away due to decay that could not be reached, leaving me with bits missing from my front teeth. Some time after having my braces removed I got an absess over my upper front right tooth and was forced to have the nerve removed. Unfortunatly, the absess had already spread to the upper front left tooth, and that nerce had to be removed too. As you can imagine I have always felt very self concious about my teeth and planned to have cosmetic dentistry when I was older. Recently this has become finacially possible and I booked a consultation at my own dentist. However, I was told that I am not a suitable candidate for crowns, which is what I am told I would need, as I have had the nerves of both teeth removed, and any crowns fitted would be likley so fall out taking my teeth with them. I was also told I am too young to be thinking about crowns, I am 20. Is this really the case? Will my teeth fall out if I have crowns? and are there any options left open to me? I’m deperate to get them fixed. Thanks

A tooth near a poorly executed attempt at an implant has darkened. What does this mean?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, when I was young I had an implant to replace a missing tooth. This implant caused a lot of problems when it was put in. I left that particular dentist (which has since shut down so that tells you all you need to know). I went and had a second opinion at another dentist and he said the work was really shody and should never have been allowed.I then had a lot of restorative work done which I couldn’t tell you the details of, in order to put it right. for years this seemed to have done the trick. now however the tooth right next to it has begun to appear darker and darker which apparently indicated that the tooth is dead. I have a pretty good diet so could this be because of the implant? if so what can i do about it? thanks

Can bad hygiene at a dentist surgery cause an oral abscess?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Can bad hygiene at a dentist surgery cause an abscess to form after having a new crown fitted 9 months previously? A total of 6 crowns were renewed for cosmetic reasons which have all had to be removed 2 years later and replaced with a denture. Prior to this the original crowns caused no problems and were fitted 20 years ago. This one abscess has caused major deterioration in the gums and each crown that has had to be extracted has had an abscess on the root. When the crowns were renewed I was informed there was no sign of gum problems and yet 9 months later there was rapid deterioration, what are your thoughts on this? thanks

My dentist has never done a crown before and has made a mess of this, what do I do?

January 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I have recently had a crown and veneer fitted on my two front teeth. After only a week my crown came out. My dentist has put it back in with a stronger cement however when she was putting it back in she has put it in too far forwrd so now my crown sticks out further than my other teeth. My dentist has said she can take it out and re position it back in but i will have to be numbed and there is the chance the root might crak or the crown might crack. also she has not done this before. Do you have any suggestions as to what i can do. i m really unhappy with the way it looks any advice you could give me would be great. Thanks
