Is it possible for dentures to wear down and make your face look older?

November 11th, 2011
Q.

Marc,
I have worn my dentures now for about four and a half years. My friend who also is a denture wearer has her dentures changed every sort of three years/three and a half and suspects that the droopy look around my mouth is because of this? I had suspected that it was just me getting older but on a closer look the teeth seem smaller than before? I might be looking for something that isnt there but I dont know? would you say either of these things can happen, would the teeth wear down to a noticeable extent then affect the rest of my face? if so why is this and how do I sort it out? thank you for reading this

Is there any way I can avoid having a sinus lift?

November 10th, 2011
Q.

Hi there, I’m having a bit of an issue with my denture, I have a top denture at the back ( I have all my front teeth) but I find it really difficult to eat. I went to see my dentist about getting implants but she said I need a sinus lift. I do like my dentist and think she is really good but I think the sinus lift sounds really complicated and not very nice. Is there a way I could have an implant denture without the sinus lift?
Thanks a lot for your help.

September 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi my teeth are in a really bad condition and my dentist told me that I need to have all my teeth taken out and replaced with false teeth, so I have been looking at my options of dentures or implants, but i was convinced that denture are only for old people is this not true anymore? Which one is best for me? I have had bad gum disease for the last 3years if this changes anything

I hate my loose dentures what can you suggest?

September 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi Doctor I had all my teeth pulled starting November 2010. Also I had a full upper and lower plate. All extractions were complicated and when extracting the teeth all of them broke at the gumline, meaning the dentist had to dig them out.I have had a terrible time trying to eat. Then to try and make things better in march 2011, he had the hard liner put in,when he put them in they still felt really loose fitting. He said to use fixodent, which i have been using everyday. When the reline goes in shouldn’t they fit better? I hate my dentures! is there anything that you can suggest?

What’s the best way to clean the once shiny parts on my dentures?

September 8th, 2011
Q.

I have had my dentures for a while ( around 4years, i can’t really remember) and I noticed that the once shinny silver steel parts have now turned black- with time and use. I tried everything from soaking them in water many times, bleaching them and scrubbing them with powered detergent, but these have all done nothing. Is there anything else you can suggest to make them look new again? thanks for your time

Iam too embarrassed to go to the dentist, help?

August 17th, 2011
Q.

I am 50 and havent been to the dentist for around 25 years now at first I was to scared and couldn’t afford it and now iam just embarrassed. Most of my teeth have broken off at gum level and i only have 2 left at the top and six at the bottom but they are all rotten so need removing. I have decided to try to get them fixed as i have barely been out the door in the last ten years. I just want to know can anything be done to help me and how much would it cost. I read online that it would cost about 10,000 pounds but theres no way i could afford to pay that much. Please give me some advice as i am desperate.

How can I keep my slipping dentures in place?

August 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi Marc, I have had my dentures for about 6months now and whatever I use I can’t seem to keep them in place, they can even slip out when iam eating or speaking. I’l try different brands and amounts of fixative but nothing seems too work. Please could you give me some advice on how to keep them in place because when out in public I become really paranoid and fear that my teeth are going to shoot out, help? Thanks for your time and hope you can help soon

Can I wear temporary dentures whilst training?

August 4th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I have had no end of problems with my teeth since I broke them in a sports related accident. For many years I had crowns on my 2 front teeth but they have fractured and the gums are seriously infected. I have resisted extraction but it does not look like I have a choice now. I have an option of implants, but understand I have to wear dentures for 3 months until the wounds heal sufficiently. My problem is I am a triathlete in nearly full time training, and need to be able to wear my dentures while swimming/racing. Are fixatives sufficient to hold them in, or what is a possible solution for these three months? I am really depressed about this, and one thing I don’t want to consider is taking them off during swim training or during a race. Please would you advise me? Thank you.
