Hi is the All-On-Four treatment Ok when being used on the upper jaw?

May 11th, 2012
Q.

TO: MR OXLEY
Please could you help me with a problem I have had with my dentures. My dentist started doing dental implants for dentures fairly recently. I looked into this as a denture wearer and thought it an amazing idea as I’d had problem retaining my dentures. I opted to have an all on four treatment? this was for both jaws with full dentures. the top denture though seems to have come lose toward to back right hand side. I asked another dentist what could be done about it and got no answer really but he did say that he should have perhaps placed more implants in my top jaw in order to retain the denture better as this one was harder to do? that was a second opinion now I’m after a third and possibly decisive one. what do you think of the situation, should he have placed more or is four fine?if so what can i do it’s quite uncomfortable

I have broken a tooth and caused trauma to the neighboring tooth what’s the procedure for replacing them?

May 8th, 2012
Q.

hello, dear expert. I was wondering if I had a bridge how long it would take? I have a broken tooth which has apparently caused trauma to the neighboring tooth? it doesn’t even sound possible to me? however if I have to have these teeth pulled then I will obviously need to replace them. I’d assume the best way to do this would be with a bridge so I was wondering how long it would take from start to finish? if there’s another option beit; better, quicker, comfier or looks better could you also let me know please, thanks

I don’t think my implant was put in right, should I complain?

May 1st, 2012
Q.

had a dental implant inserted into my upper jaw to replace a canine last week. During the procedure the implant cracked my bone and burst through my gum so that I have had to have extra stitches. The dentist has now said I may need a bone graft. Does this happen often or have I got grounds to make a complaint?

Can an implant for a missing tooth present gum disease problems?

April 24th, 2012
Q.

hi Doc. im looking at having an implant to replace a missing tooth but am quite skeptical If I have an implant will be more at risk from gum diseases and infections? does the gum grow around the implant like the implant fuses with the bone, beacause if no then in theory its an open wound? if the gum has healed down the outside of the implant then it would surely just present more surface are for bacteria to get in. the issue for me is that once its in i cant get at it in order to clean it because the crown is now in the way? can you see my issue with the concept? im just worried about having this single implant and for it to just give me more grief and lose more teeth in the long run?

I am receiving extensive care and restoration work on my teeth but am particularly concerned about having implants?

April 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, im 22 years old and currently recieving extensive care and restoration for badly damaged teeth. I have had three teeth removed at hospital, all the rest, apart from the teeth at the front between the canines are being restored and have temporary fillings in place. I realise i need to complete this restoration work to a satisfactory and healthy level before undergoing cosmetic work, but i will definately be requireing this as my smile is destroyed. Although my dentist offers the latest cosmetic treatment, they are not very informative. I would consider any cosmetic proceedures to fill two gaps at the front and improve overall appearence (colour and slightly overlapping bottom front teeth) also, my teeth do not meet at the front when i close my jaws. Please could you advise me on proceedures/costs. The only treatment i am dubious about are implants as i am an extremely nervous patient and do not beleive i could cope during the process and have cost concerns. Also, would lumineers be an option once my restoration is complete or would the teeth likely be to weak/damaged (some filling are extremely large). I would really appreciate some straightforward advise, Many thanks for your time.

I have a lose bridge but nobody seems to know why?

March 29th, 2012
Q.

Hi Chris. I have been on your website previously and wanted to contact you, your site is apparently being upgraded now so I could not. My question is implant related and as such I can use this. I had a bridge fitted about a year ago and never found it comfortable. I went ot my dentist who insisted there was nothing worng with it, or that he could find nothing wring with it. but as a bit of knowledge can be dangerous i think I have done it. the dentist never took x-rays so I wondered if it could be more underlying. the bridge has never seemed secure and i’ve always been worried to bite hard on init as this was the advice for when it was fitted though I never managed to outgrow this. I wondered if it was possible the implant was not secure at the bone? is this possible or is there another potential cause for this? any suggestions as to why it might not be right may help? thanks

Is it possible to have partial dentures on dental implants to improve retention

March 20th, 2012
Q.

Dear expert Chris. I am thirty and live in Staffordshire. I have been having problems for a while with a dodgy tooth on the top side of my mouth, I had it out along with a few my dentist said were knackered basically. I then had a partial denture placed in. this is in place of five teeth and looks good. the issue i have is retention. It is clasped to my teeth but I don’t like this. my dentist offered me a metal one that he said would improve retention and make it more comfy. I have been looking at implant retained dentures recently and think it’s a smart idea. So you think I can have partial dentures fitted on dental implants and whether it’s a good idea? thanks

Can a botched root canal treatment cause wobbly neighbouring teeth?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

Hi Chris.I am a little away from having a tooth replaced. I have had a root canal procedure performed on it before now. I had this treatment twice as there were some form of complications the first time round so I had to go back the day after to finish! This tooth has now come loose and I feel the treatment may have caused this. I have taken my greivences up with the General Dental Council regardnig the cost issues involved. What I want to know is whether all this operating could have damaged any of the surrounding teeth. I am already requiring an implant and crown to replace the tooth but I may have to replace two or three if it could have damaged them. If it has is there an easy way to replace three teeth?
Thanks Chris

Will the tooth extraction hurt and am I better off getting a crown or a bridge?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

I am due to have a tooth removed and a crown fitted but was wondering whether an extraction of a tooth with a previous root canal treatment less painfull than extraction of a normal decayed tooth with no previous treatment? Root canal therapy prove no use after two years and I am having an extraction.I know I will have local anesthetics, but they sometimes fail to work and I have experinced this before, when they failed to numb the pain completely. also on side not if i have as crown to replace the one missing tooth would it not be cheaper to have a bridge from another tooth or is this not common practice? thanks

Do I need to look at replacing my daughter’s tooth at 3 years old?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

My 3 year old daughter had a tooth in her mouth that was darker than the rest. It always bothered me as I thought this meant that it was dead. But after dental visits and them saying everything was okay, we went with that. My 3 year old daughter was at school today, running like kids do, when she fell and lost a tooth. I took her to the dentist and they informed me to give her Tylenol for the pain. Does she have to grow up without her missing front tooth for ever?
