What options do I have after breaking a denture after a fall?

May 11th, 2012
Q.

Hi Mr Taylor. I last spoke to you on here about getting dentures and denture retention. Thank you for your help it did point me in the right direction. I ended up going privately to a CDT to have a unique pair made up. I then had them put on dental implants. I cannot tell you how much better they feel for me- not having to worry about them falling out when I’m chewing, how they look etc. I now have an unfortunate problem and my local CDT is away for a further week or so. I had a bad fall the other day and noticed a crack in the denture- I paid it no attention as it just looked a small crack but then when I ate the cracked area broke off completely. what options are available when fixing them now they have been implanted? thanks again

Can dentures give you wrinkles?

May 11th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Taylor. have had dentures now for about nine years and have started to get wrinkles. they are not ‘old’ wrinkles and if they im very unfortunate because im only 51 (fit and healthy 51 year old with otherwise good skin tightness/complexion etc)and at that they are specifically only around my mouth and im convinced its due to my dentures. the wrinkles aren’t properly deep like ‘old’ wrinkles its just the skin looks saggy and aged if you will in this area. like I said I’m convinced this is due to the dentures but can this be the case- can dentures actually age your face! it sounds ridiculous and I don’t know how they would but I can’t see anything else. I have had this set of dentures for about four years but am really happy with them as they fit brilliantly in terms of retention they are absolutely fine. what can I do?

What’s the procedure for having dentures I’m nervous as I suffer from dental phobia

May 1st, 2012
Q.

Hi there i suffer from dental phobia but have been told I need to have a few of my teeth extracted as I have neglected my dentist over the last few years and clearly home care wasn’t good enough. The back four bottom left teeth are the teeth in question as two of them are infected and all are wobbly, we looked at root canal but they’re to unstable. anyway I wanted to know what the procedure is for having dentures in this area? the process is one thing quite but will there be any pain/discomfort involved in the whole process? also how long will it take to have four teeth extracted can it be done in one session or will it take more than one. thank you for your time

What do I have to consider when getting implant retained dentures?

April 20th, 2012
Q.

Dear expert I have had for as long as i can remember issues with the fitment of my dentures, infact the only dentures I had that ever actually fit was my first pair which were-as items- no where near as smart/light or aesthetically pleasing as new dentures, but they fitted. Ive had many appointment an consultations with my dentist about this and we came to the conclusion that the lab could only make them on his information and that he was adamant he was giving it to them correctly when im adamant he isnt or else they’d fit, apparently theres more to consider than this? what I want to know is what do you have to consider when looking at implant retained dentures, so if I came to your surgery and said this is what I want, what would be next- the procedure as such, would I need to meet any specific criteria and the like? could you please tell me how I’d go about getting them and the procedure involved please, thank you

I have put off having partial dentures because of the clasps, what alternatives do I have?

April 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi Mr Taylor. I have been half toothless for a while now! I have been inquiring about dentures but the dentist wanted to clasp them to my rear teeth of which I still have a few. I really hate them clasps and refused to have them seeking an alternative solution. given this I was pretty much told it was clasps or nothing and so for nearly two months it’s been nothing! could you please inform me as to whether there is indeed an alternative option to clasps and what would be a good plan of attack from here on in. thank you Andrew

I am currently unhappy with my dentures, what options do I have with dental implants?

April 4th, 2012
Q.

Hii Mr Taylor :) for the duration of time I have worn dentures I have largely been happy with them. I am now struggling though. the last pair I had I had to have them re-lined this improved them for the remaining lifespan of that pair, however the same method didnt really work to well with this pair, I have not had them long and was begining to struggle with them so I tried this method again and had it done but it didnt do much and now the dentures are insecure again. I would like to know what options i have or whether the only route is implants? what are your thoughts on this situation? thank you

My dentures won’t retain themselves any more but I’m not keen on implants. What are your thoughts?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

I have worn dentures or many years now and have gotten through a few pairs of them (full mouth dentures top and bottom). over the last few years I have got to the stage whereby the dentures wont seem to keep themselves retained well. I don’t particularly want implants but I’d consider them if they were the only remaining options. I wanted to know if there were any other way of making the dentures stay in better than they currently do. I have tried a million different fixatives and have found that non of the ones I have tried have done much. thanks for yuor help

Can dentures make you look old than you actually are?

March 9th, 2012
Q.

Good morning Mr Taylor. I was briefly reading your profile page on here and saw the questions part at the bottom. I agree that a good set of dentures can make you look different and that, certainly in my case, the old ones are aesthetically poor. If though I have new dentures made they will surely be a lot better and a such I am planning on doing. what I want to know is whether dentures can make you look older than you actually are? And as opposed to a new set making you look different can they actually help- not make you look younger but look more like your current age? I have developed a wrinkly face fast an am sure it has something to do with these? cheers

How can I keep my dentures clean as i would my real teeth?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

Hi Andrew Taylor. I am struggling to keep my dentures like new. I know over time they will discolour as teeth will but the stuff I put them in to clean them and keep them clean obviously doesn’t work well enough. as a result I tried slapping the old toothbrush out for a long period along with the tooth whitening paste. to no avail. its also really wierd doing this hah! anyway I wondered whether tooth whitening at the dentists would work for dentures? seems over kill but I like these dentures and having had them just over a year I dont want to change them just have them a little whiter if its possible. what are my options? thanks

How do full dentures retain themselves if partial dentures use existing teeth?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi I’m looking at having a denture and in my journey have heard both good and things about them. I have a partial denture right now and am not a big fan, its metal and uses my other teeth for retention. If I have a full denture how exactly will it retain itself or am I required to use that fixative stuff? Also I would like to know if there will be a big difference when I make the jump from this partial denture to a full one? I have a photo of how my teeth used to look and intend to use this to make my new dentures which I have also heard is possible? thanks for your time Mr taylor.
