Would I be better off pulling my remaining teeth or having a partial denture?

February 21st, 2012
Q.

Afternoon Mr Brindle. I know that as a clinical Dental Technician your are different to a dentist etc. I assume though you would need to collaborate with my dentist for example (who had been my family dentist for years) in order to see my history?
I am thinking along the lines of gum disease and gum disease. I have lost a lot f teeth due to periodontitis it’s ridiculous it really is and it annoys me, however I am now thinking of getting dentures. I a little stuck as to whether I should get partial dentures now with the knowledge that I will need to get full ones in the future or whether to pull the remaining teeth as a lot of them are probably already candidates for extraction whilst others will be soon. my main quesry is as dentures are removable would it matter if i still had gum disease whilst wearing partials? the teeth will be gone if I have full and I assume without plaque building on teeth I wont be able to get gum disease ? please could you give me your much valued opinion.

I’m not a big fan of metal clasps on dentures, is there and alternative?

February 21st, 2012
Q.

I am going to have to have a set of partial dentures which i assume will be clasped to my rear teeth- as theyre in good health and staying. ive heard seveal tales of the clasps feeling like theyre scratching these supporting teeth- metal on metal goes through me but metal on teeth, i wouldnt be able to hack that at all! do you think you can have partial dentures implanted so they do not require the clasps or will this in itself present more issues? if not are there any other alternatives i could look at? the thought of clasps on my teeth just, i’d hate that. would i even be better off removing the last remaining teeth and having a full set of dentures in and having them implanted?

Is it normal to replace dentures after 1-2 years and why?

February 21st, 2012
Q.

Hello MR Brindle. I have a quick few questions about dentures. I have been wearing mine for nine months, this is my first set and I have been told I will have to have them changed after the two year mark for something to do with the my gums changing. I am not concerned with this. However if I have to have the first set changed after only two years, how long will the second set last? I have considered having them a few a years and then having implant retained dentures at some point. what I want to know is whether it would make a difference having them later on or not? as in, I have to have dentures for a short while before having a long life pair so my gums can adapt. Will this aply if I have implant retained ones straight away- Ie. Will implant retained dentures affect my gums the same way dentures would to being with? thanks Dr I know this is a bit messy, cheers again.

A filling won’t work so should I have a crown?

February 21st, 2012
Q.

One of my top incisors has been filled at the rear of the tooth. this was apparently a result of my diet which left a cavity on the back of my tooth. However, the front of the tooth looks perfect. The filling recently came out and the dentist tried to refill it but the filling came out after a few days. He has now said I need a crown but as the tooth is visibly perfect I am concerned if a. I need a crown and b. will it mean effectively removing a perfectly good tooth, you can see he issue I am faced with! and also is there an alternative. many thanks

How much will a good quality single implant cost?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I was wondering if you could provide me with a standard/average price you charge for a single dental implant? I need to have 1 molar done on the lower jaw to replace an existing crown/decayed tooth I’ve already had xrays to confirm that I am suitable for the treatment, so I am now in the process of finding the best quality and value service. I look forward to your response

Is it possible to have a full, flexible denture instead of 24 implants?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Is there a full flexable upper or lower denture available. I’ve asked 2 dentist in my area and I’m told, no the flexable is a partial only. However a friend of mine claims to be fitted for a full flexable at another dentist. So what is the truth. I will need a full and eventually a lower and I’m not looking forward to them at all. Implants sound good but at $19,000.00 for a 12 teeth upper and the same for the bottom leaves me unable to have that procedure done, I just don’t have it in this economic time.

Is my old dentist responsible for the costs incurred when fixing my tooth?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, A few years ago I had a dentist who chipped my tooth during a routine check up. He then had to give me a root canal as it was causing me alot of pain. I always thought that the back of the tooth felt weird and suspected he had put alot of filler on it. The other day I was eating and felt a bit of the filling come away, as it did it also took half of the tooth with it. It was then clear that whilst giving me a root canal he had split my tooth down the middle and just put alot of filler on the back to hold it all together. I have been to a new dentist today and needless to say they were shocked. I have had a temporary filling for cosmetic reasons and have been told that I need a crown which will cost about £600. I got in touch with my old dentist and relayed all of the information above as I feel they should be responsible for any costs I incur due to the dentist causing this by chipping a perfectly health tooth. Please can you give me your views on this as I do not have much money and I am starting to worry. Many Thanks In Advance

Do I need to look at replacing my daughter’s tooth at 3 years old?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

My 3 year old daughter had a tooth in her mouth that was darker than the rest. It always bothered me as I thought this meant that it was dead. But after dental visits and them saying everything was okay, we went with that. My 3 year old daughter was at school today, running like kids do, when she fell and lost a tooth. I took her to the dentist and they informed me to give her Tylenol for the pain. Does she have to grow up without her missing front tooth for ever?
